Day 1 of training!

Well today was the first official day of training for my 5k marathon run, and boy am I in for a long journey...and I thought the adoption process was hard! Holy cow, I thought I was gonna die, but I didn't . I survived, just so that I can do it again tomorrow...and the day after...and the day after that :)

Today was what they call a cross training day. This is to help build up your endurance. Instead of going to Olena's school after work to pick her up, I went home, enjoyed a few brief moments of silence. I stretched to warm up, hooked up the bike trailer and hit the road. I rode around my block twice to get my blood flowing, and then I bolted for her school. I rode that bike like I was being chased by the mob. It was exactly 2 miles there so I huffed it as fast I could, and made sure I never stopped pedaling. When I got there, the teacher was looking at me like I was some weirdo, I was all sweaty, panting and my legs were wobbly. But I got Olena's things told her to run with me out to the parking lot. I put her in the trailer, hopped back on and rode off again like the wind :) Pedalled my heart out, all the way back home. Olena thought it was great, she kept telling me "faster mommy faster" When I got home and in the back the yard I was so tempted to just fall flat on my face in the grass, but I didn't. Instead I managed to cool down by playing a little kick ball with Olena in the yard, and we played on the swing set. After about 25 minutes I crawled my big butt up into her fort, laid down and then died!

It honestly wasn't too bad after it was all said and done. Though I think Mother Nature had it out for me today because that wind was pretty strong and it seems that I was riding against it on the way there, AND on the way back. How does that work? Hope tomorrow goes just as well. I'll keep you posted!

You keep this up and we'll have to sign you up for Tour de France!!! Congrants on making it there and back without dieing. :) All this talk about getting in shape has prompted me to go purchase a scale and do a little work out myself. I around the yard SIX times last night while David was mowing. WOW was I tried and crabby after that. Tonight I'll have to walk the dog down the road for my work out because the boys will be playing paintball in the yard and I don't want to be an unamred target. Good Luck!!!! Hope this helps you along!!!

Notice anything different?

A little accessory for her Aunt Rickie's wedding.  She kept telling us she wanted long hair like us for the wedding but we just never grew it out.  So voila! instant long hair! I do plan to make it look a lot nicer for the wedding.  Literally she walked in from playing in the sprinkler and I shoved it on her head.  Once her real hair is curled it will blend and look more uniform. I am proud at how well I matched the color, I was worried because I ordered it off line.

Being brave the best way she knows how.

Olena has a big issue with getting her nails clipped. This has been a problem since bringing her home and though it has improved a bit in four years, it is still a 45 minute fight just to trim her fingers and toes. She has never been hurt - she just has a problem with it due to her sensory disorder - she is extremely over sensitive when it comes to her feet or hands. I am cutting her nails the other day.... O: do you have to cut the baby one too? M: Yes! O:NNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOO, not the baby one OK? M: I have to, it's really long O: NNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOO, its my dragon claw. M: I still have to cut it O: NNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOO, just leave it ok! Leave them all. I can do it. M: how? you don't know how to use the clippers. O: like this! (as she attempts to put her toes in her mouth and act like she biting the nails off) M: that's just wrong....not to mention disgusting. I need to cut them. Please give me your foot. O: (as nervous as be) just wait a minute.....**big sigh**....(gr
