We had a great week! Rickie was finally able to spend a few days with us, it has been weeks since we have had "girl" time. It was nice for me to have a friend around and Olena of course was beside herself with excitement. My parents went mining for diamonds in NY last week (pretty cool huh?) and my mom is my sitter on Th-Fridays. So since she wasn't available Rickie stayed with us and watched her while I was at work. Then over the weekend we traveled to Windsor and spent all day Saturday at Greenview Aviaries. It was AWESOME! It is a small quaint park/zoo in the middle of nowhere (about 1 1/2 hours north of Windsor) Super clean, only $12 per person and Olena was free. The park had a slash pad, a huge pool of balls, a big sandbox with about 20 different tonka trucks, 2 big play scape's, 3 different trampolines, a "mini" village where you could feed the ducks and fish, a Merry-go-round, slide, 2 boat swings, and a zip cord...which I am proud to announce that Olena rode - ALONE!
I couldn't believe it and I was so mad I didn't get a picture. It didn't even phase her. I kid you not, this zip cord was about 75 feet long, and about 12 feet in the air. I didn't worry too much because it was over a "bedding" of recycled tire mulch and it was soft. Anyhow she said "mommy do" and pointed to it. I climbed up there with her, expecting her to back out at the last minute but the girl handed her the bar, she gripped on with both hands. I said "are you ready" she said "yes". I asked again " are you sure"...."yes mommy, GO!" so I let go and off she zipped! She held on all the way to the end. Where Rickie was standing and grabbed her. Most of the kids hit the end and fly back the other way but I didn't want her to come to such a hard jolt so Rickie grabbed her just before the end. Everyone in the park was looking at me like I was a crazy nut, and when she hit the end, all I heard where OMGs!!! from everyone watching. Even the other kids stopped to watch her do it! I was so proud! and a bit jealous because it really looked like fun! and please keep in mind that Olena is in gymnastics and has been for over a year now. I have seen her hang from a straight bar for long lengths of time. She is extremly strong, especially in her upper body, so I was pretty confident she could hold herself on!
Anyhow, they even had a small zoo, where you could actually feed all of the animals. All they had was signs on the cages " I BITE" or in the case of the Siberian Tiger sign which said "Watch out, I can spray over 15 feet" Gross! but we had a lot of fun feeding all of the animals. The weather was nice, a bit warm for my liking, but there was plenty of shade. Though it is a smaller "attraction" I would have to say that was one of the best places I have visited. Reasonably priced for a family, lots to do and see!
