an family life update (from June of this year)

I am sure some of you wonder why all of the sudden the updates and where the heck have I been?? Life just got the better of me and we have hit a place as a family that has required some reconstructing and the idea of facing the basic task of blogging, just seemed exhausting.

One of the big changes?? My uncle is now part of our household :) he has been living with us since May.  While we love him dearly, adapting to another person in the house is an adjustment for everyone.  on the flip side he is use to living alone so coming into a house with 3 other people and 4 dogs I am sure is overwhelming.  Thankfully it has been a relatively easy transition and things will get better with time.  He is big help in many ways.  With Jason and I both working full time now and opposite shifts, it is nice for us to each have an extra hand around for some help if needed.  Olena loves having him around but unfortunately with the change came a new mouthy and argumentative side of Olena.  We are working on it.  She is in "step up" stage as far as her maturity goes so Jason and I struggle a bit trying to grow with her as parents. We are trying to retrain ourselves too.

The last 3-6 months have really detoured us from what our life plan was so now it is the time when we have to stop treading water and start working on new plans.

Notice anything different?

A little accessory for her Aunt Rickie's wedding.  She kept telling us she wanted long hair like us for the wedding but we just never grew it out.  So voila! instant long hair! I do plan to make it look a lot nicer for the wedding.  Literally she walked in from playing in the sprinkler and I shoved it on her head.  Once her real hair is curled it will blend and look more uniform. I am proud at how well I matched the color, I was worried because I ordered it off line.

Being brave the best way she knows how.

Olena has a big issue with getting her nails clipped. This has been a problem since bringing her home and though it has improved a bit in four years, it is still a 45 minute fight just to trim her fingers and toes. She has never been hurt - she just has a problem with it due to her sensory disorder - she is extremely over sensitive when it comes to her feet or hands. I am cutting her nails the other day.... O: do you have to cut the baby one too? M: Yes! O:NNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOO, not the baby one OK? M: I have to, it's really long O: NNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOO, its my dragon claw. M: I still have to cut it O: NNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOO, just leave it ok! Leave them all. I can do it. M: how? you don't know how to use the clippers. O: like this! (as she attempts to put her toes in her mouth and act like she biting the nails off) M: that's just wrong....not to mention disgusting. I need to cut them. Please give me your foot. O: (as nervous as be) just wait a minute.....**big sigh**....(gr
