I received this in my email today and thought it was worthy of sharing. Not sure how many of you are aware of how the orphanage system works over in Ukraine. Once the child is 15/16 years old they "age out". This means they are now "free" from the walls of the only place they know as home. They are released into the world on their own with nothing the clothing on their back. If they are lucky, they may be given a toothbrush on their way out the door. Too many of the girls get scoped up by men who traffic in human beings for sex. The boys can be used for forced labor.

About 10% of them will commit suicide after leaving the orphanage before their 18th birthday.

60% of the girls will end up in prostitution. Those who run prostitution rings target orphaned girls, who are especially vulnerable due to their lack of options and lack of people who care what happens to them.

Though promised good jobs, they end up on the streets and brothels of cities across Europe. 70% of the boys will enter a life of crime. Many of these will die young of violence or end up in prison. Most inmates contract TB in prison.

Hello Friends!
We know it is a very hard time for everyone, and be assured that presenteconomic conditions in Ukraine are WAY harder. For a Ukrainian orphan, graduating and aging out of an internat (orphanage/boarding school) with avery weak 9th grade education, prospects range are dismal and may result inearly death. Their only chance is to go to vocational educational trainingfor 2 years and learn a skill. After the very successful pilot project ofsponsorship of 2008 grads, we now have 10 new hopeful grads who trust us tohelp them. *On the website, scroll all the way down below the 2008 teens’photos* to see the appeal we made last year. Information is still as itwas, EXCEPT that the program is a PROVEN SUCCESS after the 2008 graduateshave gone through this first year. Their sponsors have gotten letters andphotos all year!

Please say you will send $50 per month for full supportor
$25 per month for ½ support (you can team up.)

These 10 grads already believe that they will have sponsors. If we do nothelp, *there will be no one* that these kids can turn to! You can literallygive a teen A LIFE!*WE MUST NOT LET THEM DOWN! *

Thanks, Natalie, Beatriz, and Anna

Notice anything different?

A little accessory for her Aunt Rickie's wedding.  She kept telling us she wanted long hair like us for the wedding but we just never grew it out.  So voila! instant long hair! I do plan to make it look a lot nicer for the wedding.  Literally she walked in from playing in the sprinkler and I shoved it on her head.  Once her real hair is curled it will blend and look more uniform. I am proud at how well I matched the color, I was worried because I ordered it off line.

Being brave the best way she knows how.

Olena has a big issue with getting her nails clipped. This has been a problem since bringing her home and though it has improved a bit in four years, it is still a 45 minute fight just to trim her fingers and toes. She has never been hurt - she just has a problem with it due to her sensory disorder - she is extremely over sensitive when it comes to her feet or hands. I am cutting her nails the other day.... O: do you have to cut the baby one too? M: Yes! O:NNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOO, not the baby one OK? M: I have to, it's really long O: NNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOO, its my dragon claw. M: I still have to cut it O: NNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOO, just leave it ok! Leave them all. I can do it. M: how? you don't know how to use the clippers. O: like this! (as she attempts to put her toes in her mouth and act like she biting the nails off) M: that's just wrong....not to mention disgusting. I need to cut them. Please give me your foot. O: (as nervous as be) just wait a minute.....**big sigh**....(gr
