1st camping trip of the year!

Finally...mid August we completed the necessary repairs on our magnificent home away from home and we ventured out to Silver Lake Michigan.  A city along the Western coast that is known for it's sand dunes.  To say the least, it was a trip we will never forget! :(

I know it seems strange to wait until mid August to take our first trip but this lovely pop up, was a steal in price BUT that meant it needed a few repairs.  We only paid $500 for it, and the guy we bought it from had done a lot of work to the inside.  Painting, brand new mattresses and cushions (still in the packing with the $1200 receipt), and it looks like some trim was replaced.  Inside was on point.  The trouble was the cable system.  It was snapped so you couldn't crank it up.  Jason figured it wouldn't be a big deal so we went for it.  Well that project that wasn't a big deal took about 2 months of research and 4 WHOLE days to get the job done!  In the end though, it was totally worth it.  Keep in mind we bought this camper on total faith because we couldn't pop it up so we really had no idea what the inside had in store for us.  Its old, so it could have been awful.  Thankfully we were pleasantly surprised and was very solid, clean and comfortable.  Perfect for the 3 of us!
My parent had recently traded in their camper days for boating so she had a ton of supplies from the camper they sold so we ended up being full furnished too.

As for the first trip?? it wasn't so good.  Who knew that in August the night time temperature would drop into the 30s? WE FROZE! Jason and I were sick, J lost his contact which will cost us $300 to replace, the camp ground was a bit too "commercial" and busy for me - I like to relax and enjoy the outdoors feeling, this camp ground didn't offer that at all! and remember I mentioned Silver Lake is known for their sand dunes?  Kids in sand dunes = lots of sand everywhere! including your BED! No matter what I did it always ended up on everything.  It was terrible.  Of  course when we camp me and Olena usually sleep together, so that meant I was the lucky one.  Olena's outlook on the situation "This is so cool, it is like sleeping right on the dunes"!
YEAH I know....I just didn't find it to be cozy!
In the end, Olena had lots of fun and made lots of friends, we toughed it out, came home and enjoyed a few more days off before having to go back to work.
Here's to better season next year.  :)  Cheers.

Those are the camping trips you always remember. One of our most memorable involved lots of rain, a fly infestation, vomit all over the camper bedding and me being 8 months pregnant.

your camper looks awesome! You got a great deal!

Notice anything different?

A little accessory for her Aunt Rickie's wedding.  She kept telling us she wanted long hair like us for the wedding but we just never grew it out.  So voila! instant long hair! I do plan to make it look a lot nicer for the wedding.  Literally she walked in from playing in the sprinkler and I shoved it on her head.  Once her real hair is curled it will blend and look more uniform. I am proud at how well I matched the color, I was worried because I ordered it off line.

Some pictures from Cloudland Canyon State Park.
